Be Attractive

Lent

Mat 5:13-16  "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”.

Jesus expects those who follow him to be different. He uses analogies like “salt” and “light” to make his point. Jesus-followers ought to add flavour to life; they ought to bring light into darkness. These are positive illustrations of how we can add richness and texture to life.

Sadly, all too often, Christians have a reputation for taking the flavour out of life, and for bringing darkness into a social gathering. They are the ones whose angry glances and hateful speech cause misery for people who are gay, or bring heartache to an unmarried mother, or drive away the Muslim person.

Embrace the challenge of Lent: to live your life in such a way that these, and other people we want to marginalize, might “see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”.

(To Sing Aloud): This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
